Cafe Review: Ninetys- Coffee Judge serving Fusion Australian Brunches

Cafe Review: Ninetys- Coffee Judge serving Fusion Australian Brunches

We never forget how important about human relationship and we truly understand this is the foundation of all the businesses in the world. Therefore NINETYs's core concept is all about Human Connection...specialty cafe brand, a place of chill, friendly and social place.

Since when have we all forgotten that cafes are not just about all-day-breakfast? While quite a lot of cafes in Hong Kong ran out of ideas on food offerings, the new kid on the block is a breath of fresh air of the Hong Kong cafe scene. Inspired by his adventures in Australia, Bruno, an awarded coffee judge brought back flavours from Australian brunch and sought to set the bars high for cafes in Hong Kong.

The Food
As brunch lovers, we ordered two of our favourites back in Australia, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on black sourdough, along with mushroom toast on sourdough of our choice. I have high expectations for sourdough at cafes; apart from being slightly soggy having absorbed the moisture from the toppings, the bread underneath had a chewy crust and delightful sour aftertaste. The bread choice is also well thought out- Ninetys offer apricot and walnut bread, black sourdough and beer bread. I wonder what beer bread tastes like?

The Mushroom on Toast ($88) featured Portobello mushrooms and other varieties that are mildly seasoned to bring out the true flavours. For the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast ($138), instead of in pieces, Ninetys’ smoked salmon came in a tartare, marinated in a light mayonnaise-like Yuju sauce that was refreshing. I would say Ninetys has indeed put much effort in sourcing their ingredients and testing their dishes before the soft opening, for the food tasted as how it is originally, unlike the heavily sauced and seasoned food in other restaurants.

Coffee at Ninetys has two varieties- fruity and choco blend for customers having high expectations for their daily cup. Bruno offered tasting notes for indecisive customers. Bruno has coupled dried blackcurrants with their Choco blend coffee, and almonds with the Fruity alternative.

It was a shame I had limited budget and did not try the famous Donut Toast- their signature Greek yogurt based donut topped with ice cream and fresh fruits. Neither did I get the coffee, but I will sure try it out when I pass by next time! The cafe is a definite must try. I am not sure if I will be back soon (because of the price and location); but the fresh ingredients, the well-thought-out menu, and the sides that accompanied the coffee were proof how efforts could transform a place into a gem.
